Automated Slack alerts and Salesforce updates when a free trial extension triggers
Clay (Free): to import account data and automate free trial extension alerts via Slack
Snowflake (or data warehouse): to import product usage data (e.g. free trial extensions)
Salesforce (or CRM): to import and update account and AE records
When a trial gets extended, your AEs need to know and your CRM needs to reflect it.
This Claybook helps you automate the entire trial extension workflow: pull account data from Snowflake when a free trial extension initiates, lookup the account’s AE in Salesforce, send them a real-time Slack alert, and log the extension in CRM—all without lifting a finger.
No more chasing down trial status or forgetting to follow up. Your AEs stay in the loop, and your data stays clean.
How it works:
First, copy this template in Clay.
If you’re already a user, you’ll be directed to your workspace. If not, you’ll be prompted to create a free Clay account.
The interactive demos on the right will walk you through each step of this Claybook.
The table template you copy to your workspace won’t come with data in it. To import account data from Snowflake, just click on the “+” icon in the first column, log in to your Snowflake account, select your Snowflake database, and submit. Once imported, map each respective data point to its own column in the table.
For us, we’re importing the following from accounts that just got a free trial extension: email and company URL, their Clay workspace ID, their account executives information, and their opportunity ID that we’ll use to lookup their record in Salesforce.
Not using Snowflake? You can delete this column and import account data from any other data warehouse or source.
Next, we’re going to use the opportunity ID we just pulled in from Snowflake to lookup the account’s record in Salesforce and import that data into the table. Then we’re going to use the owner ID attached to the account’s record to import the account executives' Slack user ID so we can automate trial extension alerts.
Customize the “Get Owner” and “Get Opp” CRM lookups to do the same.
Next, using data we pulled in from Snowflake and Salesforce, we’re going to automate a Slack message to our account executives every time a new trial extension gets added to one of their accounts. Customize the Slack message to fit your style and preferences.
Last, we’re going to close the loop by creating a new record in Salesforce that details the account’s recent free trial extension. Now, moving forward, every time a new trial extension gets triggered in Snowflake, each account’s respective AE will get a Slack alert and Salesforce will get updated with a new record.
