  • Ransomware Variants: Examples include CryptoLocker, which encrypts files and demands payment for decryption; Reveton, known as "police ransomware" that impersonates law enforcement agencies to scare victims into paying fines; and WannaCry, which exploited a vulnerability in Windows to infect computers worldwide, demanding ransom payments in Bitcoin.
  • Prevention and Defense Strategies: Some methods include avoiding unverified emails to prevent ransomware infections, using the 3-2-1 rule for backups to ensure data recovery in case of an attack, and regularly updating software to protect against vulnerabilities exploited by ransomware.
