What is Process Automation?

Process automation is the use of software and technologies to automate business processes and functions, aiming to achieve defined organizational goals such as producing a product, hiring and onboarding employees, or providing customer service. It is a key component in digital transformation journeys and is most suitable for repetitive tasks with formalized steps, sequences, and rules. Process automation technologies include Robotic Process Automation (RPA), workflow automation, and intelligent process automation (IPA), among others.

Types of Process Automation

Process automation can be broadly categorized into two main types: Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and Workflow Automation. RPA involves the use of software bots to automate repetitive tasks and interactions within business systems. Examples of RPA include automating data entry, extraction tasks, and processing transactions. Workflow Automation, on the other hand, focuses on automating specific tasks within an entire workflow, following predefined business rules.
